  21. TykeWriter - Word Processor for Kids!  Version 2.1.0
  22.  
  23. TykeWriter is an easy to use text editor providing an adjustable range of
  24. features suited for both beginning and advanced child typists.  The last
  25. release was widely recommended and received a four star rating by MacWorld
  26. publisher Ziff-Davis.
  27.  
  28. The document typing area is presented as a wire-bound notebook. A floating
  29. pallette makes features such as New File, Save, and Exit easily available
  30. with the click of a button, and also offers several standard text styles
  31. such as underline or outline text. Multiple color text support is also
  32. available.

  34. TykeWriter supports the Speech Manager, which allows children to have fun
  35. with various voices reading their work. If you've got kids, and want to
  36. teach them how to use a Mac, TykeWriter is an excellent place to start.An
  37. optional tool supports accents for European languages.  TykeWriter can be
  38. used without the keyboard, using only the mouse and on-screen alphabet.  It
  39. includes a user guide.

  41. New features since the popular version 2.0.0:

  43. Customizable Voices - Kids will be able to switch Speech Manager voices.  If
  44. two documents are open at once, each may have a different voice and can
  45. speak at the same time.

  47. Customizable Styles - Each child can have a custom default style.
  48. Intermediate level students can choose from a customizable list of styles.
  49. For instance, if
  50. you only have a black and white printer, you can change all the styles to
  51. black and white.

  53. Online Help - Each of the "grown-ups" configuration menu has a help button.

  55. Graceful Transitions Between Levels - In version 2.0.0, if you reconfigured
  56. TykeWriter, it often did odd things until it was restarted. This is
  57. corrected in version 2.1.0.

  59. Several minor bugs fixed and adjustments.

  61. System requirements:
  62. * 68030 or better
  63. * System 7.0 or later (uses only 1.5 MB of DRAM while running).  It has been
  64. tested on both System 7.1 and System 8.5.
